Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Second Season 13

Continuing the tradition of short-lived superweapons in the Gundam multi-verse, Celestial Being trash the Memento Mori with an assist from Nena.

Another Gadessa? Booo!!! We want to see something new.

Full Summary:
After the Memento Mori wipes out half of the second Katharon fleet, the rest of the Katharon forces come under heavy fire from A-LAWS forces under the command of Arba Lindt. Among the A-LAWS is Innovator Healing Care, who is piloting a Gadessa. The Katharon mobile suits are ships are no match for the more advanced A-LAWS forces. Just as the command ship is about to be blown up, Setsuna and the 00 Raiser arrive on the scene and starts fighting off the A-LAWS mobile suits. Setsuna tells the Katharon commander to leave the operation to Celestial Being and to transmit any data they have regarding the Memento Mori. Meanwhile, Arba gets word of Celestial Being's involvement and devise a plan to blast Celestial Being with the Memento Mori. On the battlefield, Healing and Setsuna exchange some long range fire and the Gadessa starts chasing after the 00.

The 00 flies in to save the comrades in blue (Katharon).

In an orbital station not too far away from the Memento Mori, Hong Long waits for the arrival of Wang Liu Mei. When Wang arrives, Hong Long is surprised to discover that Wang has been slapped by someone. Wang states that the slap is a sign of jealousy from (a certain) man and such jealousy can be ugly and dangerous. Wang asks if the Ptolemaios has started attacking the Memento Mori yet, and Hong reports that it hasn't. Unbeknownst to both Wang and Hong, Nena is listening in on the conversation from her shuttle, and she plans to mess up Wang Liu Mei's scenario in order to exact a bit of revenge.

Looks like Ribbons didn't slap Wang Liu Mei hard enough. Nobody will see the redness after a little bit of makeup.

The crew of the Ptolemaios has received the data from Katharon. The information reveals that the Memento Mori cannot shoot at certain angles, and most of the defensive forces are concentrated in that safe corridor. The crew then suddenly receives a message from Wang Liu Mei. Tieria and rest of the crew wonder why Wang is so late with the info, and they are surprised to find that the message contains detailed schematics of the Memento Mori. As the rest of the crew wonder how Wang obtained this information, Sumeragi has found a weakness in a power regulator in the orbital weapon. Based on this info, Sumeragi prepares a tactical forecast that calls for the cooperation of the three Gundams left in the ship, and especially between the Cherudim and the Seravee. Unbeknownst to the crew of the Ptolemaios, the message was actually sent by Nena, who is looking forward to seeing a big fight.

Elsewhere on the Ptolemaios, Saji is talking with Marie and Marie reveals that she knows Louise from when she was with A-LAWS. Marie confirms Saji's suspicions that Louise was a mobile suit pilot. The conversation is interrupted when Sumeragi calls both of them to the bridge. Meanwhile, Setsuna continues to fend off A-LAWS forces that are attacking the Katharon ships. After scoring his eighth kill, Setsuna receives a call from Sumeragi saying that the mission is about to start.

The Ptolemaios is getting ready to deliver some belated Christmas presents to the A-LAWS.

As the 00 enters a duel with Healing's Gadessa, the Ptolemaios charges down the orbital ring with its GN field fully extended. Arba knows that the Ptolemaios is trying to charge through the safe corridor, so he orders his forces to use their weapons to push the Ptolemaios into the Memento Mori's firing angle. The Ptolemaios is slowly forced towards the Memnto Mori's area of coverage by the heavy fire, but Sumeragi is waiting for Marie to give the signal. With the Memento Mori recharged, Arba orders the superweapon to fire. Just as the Memento Mori fires, Marie gives the signal and Allelujah engages Trans-Am on the Arios. Arba thinks that he has hit the Ptolemaios, but he soon finds the enemy charging towards him at a even greater speed. With only the Arios supplying Trans-Am, the Ptolemaios cannot extend its GN-Field, so the defenses are left to Lockon and the Cherudim. As the Ptolemaios continues to charge forward, the Seravee and the Cherudim emerge from one of the launch bays. The Cherudim goes Trans-am and detaches remote-controlled shield bits from its body to act as the ship's defenses.

The Cherudim's shield bits in action. Looks like it failed to block this shot though.

The 00 does not like being ignored.

Meanwhile, Healing and her Gadessa has gotten away from Setsuna and the 00. Healing prepares to blast the Ptolemaios from behind with the Gadessa's big beam cannon, but the 00 flies in and slices the beam cannon in half. Further down the orbital ring, the Ptolemaios has charged past the bulk of the A-LAWS forces and is moving towards the Memento Mori and Arba's command ship. The Cheruidm's shield bits are almost gone, and the Arios' Trans-Am has reached its limit, but the Ptolemaios has gotten close enough to space station to start the final phase of the plan. Tieria activates Trans-Am on the Seravee and fires off a Hyper Burst to blow apart the Memento Mori's outer armour. Lasse follows up by peppering the orbital weapon with a volley of missiles from Ptolemaios. All of these attacks are not enough to destroy the space station, but they have exposed the vulnerable power regulator. Lockon takes over and hits the regulator with the Cherudim's sniper rifle, and this starts a chain reaction in the Memento Mori. As the Ptolemaios fly past the space station, the Memento Mori violently explodes and Arba's ship is caught by the explosion.

Orbital bowling with the Seravee's Hyper Burst.

Spreading the holiday cheer with green GN missiles.

Who told you to park your ship so close to the Memento Mori anyways?

With the Memento Mori destroyed, Setsuna receives the order to retreat from Sumeragi. However, Healing isn't content on letting the 00 go so easily and gives chase, but suddenly crimson blasts appear out of nowhere to stop the Gadessa. The 00 takes advantage of the distraction and cuts off one of the Gadessa's arms, forcing Healing to stop the chase. As Setsuna wonders about where the mysterious support fire came from, Nena is happily flying away in her shuttle.

Victory for Nena! Yay!!!

Outside of the Katharon base on Earth, Klaus, Shirin, Marina and other people at the base watch as the debris from the Memento Mori burn inside the atmosphere. A few kids comment that the sight looks beautiful, but Klaus states that these lights of conflict cannot be passed on to the next generation. The destruction of the Memento Mori is also witnessed by Sergei, who is sitting in his office at a Federation base. Sergei then gets a surprise visit from his old friend Pang Hercules.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This was an okay episode. Arba Lindt bit the dust, but nobody really cares about him anyways.
The battle wasn't as exciting as I had hoped, mainly because only one Innovator showed up to the fight, and she's not even that good given that Setsuna didn't have to use Trans-Am to get the job done. I was hoping that something would go wrong with Celestial Being's plan to make for more drama, but everything went pretty smoothly for the good guys. Hopefully Ribbons and the gang has something else up their sleeves or it might get really boring in the the last 12 episodes.
The only really interesting bit in this episode is about Nena. It seems that she has finally had enough of Wang Liu Mei and she's going to do whatever she can to mess up Wang's plans. Good for her, I say. It's about time Nena did something meaningful instead of being Wang's errand girl. From this episode it looks like Nena is helping Celestial Being, which makes sense since Wang Liu Mei seems to be siding with the Innovators. Let's see how long this little game between Wang and Nena can last.
As for the mechanical side of things, the Cherudim's shield bits were pretty cool. I'm curious to see if the bits can be used in an mobile suit battle. As for the 00 Raiser, the blasters used by the 00 seems to be much more powerful than before. Before getting the O-Raizer, those blasters were like pistols, but now they are like freaking beam cannons, and can also do scatter shots. They also seems to be more durable than before and can actually stand up the beam swords from Innovator mobile suits. They are like Swiss Army Knife of mobile suit weapons now. Does attaching the O-Raizer make that much of a difference? I guess that's what they want us to think. The only thing that seems to be missing from the 00 equation is a big, powerful sword. I think it might be necessary given that Mr. Bushido will get himself the biggest and most powerful sword Billy can conjure up, so the 00 must get an equally or perhaps more impressive sword to counter. With the big sword, the oo Raiser in Trans-Am can fly around with after-images... now that I think of it, that's just like the Destiny Gundam. I'll end my rambling here before I get further off track.
  1. Haha yay for nena!!!. But on a side related note, i wonder how her path will turn out from now on. Joining celestial being is an option but how will she face saji and lousie? Finally i saw cherdium in trans am in action. From my memories i think dynmaics nv on trans am before. And cherdium trans am from what i saw so far was only activated for the boost of potomy. I wonder what ribbon will do from now on since the weapon and innovator both got defeated and destroyed.
  2. I wonder what the Innovators are going to do now too, because the Memento Mori sounded like their trump card. Probably have things up their sleeves though.
    Yeah, I don't remember the Dynames in Trans-Am. It might have been used as a speed-boost for travel and that might be it.
    As for Nena, I think she's going to stay with Wang Liu Mei for now and mess with Wang's plans. Wang will probably suspect something sooner or later though.
  3. This is probably incredibly late considering that the episode aired quite a while ago, but I thought I'd post anyway. I lost track on Season 2 with this episode and just recently picked it up again, starting with episode 14 because I could not obtain 13. (The only episode my friends lacked.)
    I felt bad hearing about this episode after deciding to read up on it. Your comment about Lindt isn't totally true... ^^; I think I'm one of the *very* small amount of people that actually liked him and thanks to me he popped up in a lot of conversations about 00 S2.
    "Hey, Gra- I mean, Mr. Bushido was awesome in this episode."
    "...Hey, you know who was also awesome in this episode? Lindt."
    Honestly, a part of my interest in 00 faded away after reading that he'd died.
    At least Ribbons is still about.
  4. @Alfonso
    You actually liked Arba? You are on one of the few I suppose. I'm not trying to make fun of you so don't take it the wrong way, but to me Arba was just your generic villain who died the generic villain way.
